About Us

The Western Plains Landscape Guardians Association was formed for the following purposes:

1.    To preserve the landscape of the Western Basalt Plains of Victoria.
2.    To preserve the amenity of the landscape for those who presently or may in the future, live and/or work in this beautiful largely rural area.
3.    To ensure that unsuitable developments do not take place.
4.    To ensure that proper examination of possibly unsuitable developments is not hindered by late, incomplete or false statements and permit applications.
5.    To ensure that decisions regarding such possible developments are decided by the community as a whole.
6.    To protect landholders that might be pressured into such developments on their land and to assist neighbouring landholders present their case.
7.    To encourage councils and government to develop clear up to date guidelines and rules for such developments including mechanisms for community views to play a major role in decisions regarding such developments.

Our membership consists of concerned residents and regular visitors to the Western Plains, and is open to all interested persons. A working committee (voluntary) meets monthly to discuss issues and set strategies for furthering the purposes listed above. Please see the section What You Can Do for more information about joining and supporting our work.
